St. Cecilia was born in Rome to a noble family around AD 214.
As a girl, Cecilia made a vow of virginity to God. She spent her time composing songs in praise of God. Her family compelled her to marry a pagan nobleman named Valerian however.
Cecilia told Valerian of her vow and that an angel was always at her side. She asked Valerian to respect her vow of virginity, even in marriage, or God would send her angel to harm him. Valerian believed her, and he honored her vow. Further, he was told that if he became a Christian, he would see Cecilia’s angel next to her.
Pope Urban baptized Valerian, and when he returned home, he saw Cecilia’s angel right next to her. He told all this to his brother, Tiburtius, who also became Catholic through Cecilia’s evangelization. Pope Urban then baptized Tiburtius, and he too could see the angel. It was discovered that Valerian and his brother were now Catholic, and they suffered martyrdom in the hands of the prefect Almachius.
Cecilia was arrested and when she refused to renounce her Catholic Faith, she was condemned to death by steam of the bath of her own house. But she remained unharmed by the fire, so a soldier was then ordered to kill her with a sword. He made three strokes with the sword against her head, but she still did not die for three days.
Her relics are kept in a shrine in the Basilica of St. Cecilia in Rome. In 1599, when her tomb was opened, her body was incorrupt.
She is the patroness of musicians.

FACEBOOK Starts: January 15th Feastday: January 24th St. Francis de Sales Introduction Born to a rich French family near Geneva, Switzerland in 1567, Francis was devout from an early age and blessed with deep intellect. His father desired that he study law and enter the political world, but Francis believed God was calling him to the priesthood. He did study law, but meanwhile he grew in mental prayer and also learned theology. At 26, after contention with his father, he was ordained a priest. Recall that this time period was in the first 75 years of the Protestant schisms from the Reformation. The Protestant Calvinists had a stronghold in Geneva, so Francis began a mission to lead them back to the Catholic Church. For several years, he met total failure: no one gave him the time of day, let aloned listened to him to convert back to Cath...

Starts: January 19th Feastday: January 28th Introduction St. Thomas Aquinas Born in Italy in 1225, Thomas was gifted with an unparalleled intellect. He sought to enter the Dominican Order, but his family stopped him for some time by capturing him and holding him in their castle. During that imprisonment, they sent in a prostitute to tempt him to sin, but he drove her out, and angels came to him and Thomas was given a special grace of not being tempted against purity again in his life (for those interested in growing in purity, search for the Angelic Warfare Confraternity established by the Dominicans through the graces given to St. Thomas with regard to purity.) Thomas went on to enter the Dominican Order, become a professor and theologian, writing the Summa Theologiae, the ...
